Workshop on wildfire prevention took place in Klagenfurt
On 19-20 May 2026, the partner meeting of the Interreg CENTRAL EUROPE project WildfireCE took place in Klagenfurt, Austria, hosted by the Carinthian Fire Service School. The meeting focused on the progress of the ongoing work packages, preparation of upcoming pilot activities, and the further development of joint strategies for cross-border wildfire prevention and risk management.
Project partners discussed the finalisation of key deliverables related to fuel mapping, fire behaviour modelling, risk area mapping, and action plans for the pilot regions. In addition, demonstrations of fire simulation tools were carried out and the next steps for the online platform and stakeholder cooperation were coordinated.
The meeting highlighted that WildfireCE is already creating important foundations for harmonised cross-border wildfire risk assessment and coordinated adaptation strategies. Close cooperation between researchers, authorities, emergency responders, and regional stakeholders remains a key success factor for the project.
