Specialist workshop at the fire station near the A4 motorway
On 28 May 2025, volunteer fire brigade leaders from Poland had the opportunity to visit their colleagues on the other side of the border at a special location during the third cross-border specialist workshop of the ‘Eco-Energie in Aktion’ project. The meeting took place at the VSU Tunnel Königshainer Berge fire station by the A4 motorway. The workshop began with an introduction to the venue. The guests had the opportunity to get to know the VSU Tunnel fire service team and their daily tasks. The visitors then learnt more about the communication of the emergency services on the German side of the border. Oliver Trost, Head of the Department for International Cooperation at the Görlitz District Fire Brigade Association, provided particularly interesting insights into the possibilities of strengthening communication between the emergency services on the other side of the border in the future. He told the guests about best-practice examples of the work of the FIREUNITY initiative, which aims to bring together firefighters from three countries (Poland, the Czech Republic and Germany). Afterwards, the participants were able to look forward to the practical part of the event and took part in a guided tour of the depot.
