Green LUPO: Greening land use policy to achieve the objective of no net land take
Increasing urbanisation in spatial planning is an issue that affects almost all European countries. To address this challenge, the EU has set the goal of achieving ‘no net land take’ by 2050. This initiative encourages member states to minimise further land sealing and urban expansion, with the aim of achieving net-zero land take by mid-century. In practice, this means urban development should be limited to areas that are already urbanised to prevent further land consumption. The project aims to integrate the knowledge gained through the mutual learning process into national spatial planning processes. Ultimately, each participant should endeavour to adapt their existing spatial planning documents and instruments to enable planning that protects the ecosystem functions of the soil and restores biodiversity and species diversity. core-consult coordinated the project development phase and supports its implementation as external project and financial management.
