First Thematic Workshop on Land Use and No Net Land Take
On 25–26 June 2025, the Green LUPO partnership met in Eupen (BE) for the first thematic workshop titled “Assessing, monitoring & classifying land: when is land ‘taken’, when is it valuable natural space?” The two-day event brought together project partners and experts from across Europe to explore the challenges of implementing the “No Net Land Take” (NNLT) principle in spatial and environmental planning.
Participants benefited from high-level presentations, including country-specific insights and recent research on urban sprawl. In interactive group sessions, they discussed shared challenges and laid the groundwork for common research aims. A guided discovery walk through Eupen added a practical dimension to the workshop.
The event marked an important step towards a shared understanding of land use monitoring and sustainable land management within the Interreg Europe project Green LUPO.
